Thanks to those who have already written comments or sent me emails, keep them coming. By popular demand, Fernando will refuse to write in third person and will try to post pictures. And yes, not only was it the best hot dog that I've eaten, I actually liked it. So back to my novel:
After the night/morning dancing, we returned to rest, as the other two Hungarians, Attila and Béla, arrived that day. Since we went to pick them up, I tried to sort out my luggage woes, but the airport was undergoing some construction work and nobody was available to help me or had a clue as to how I should contact the lost luggage department. Luckily, I had packed some underwear and shirts in my carry-on bag since it didn't fit in my checked bag. Upon returning home, Péter, Béla, and I decided to go to this lighthouse and cliff area close to Reykjavík to enjoy the wonderful Sunday afternoon. One "adventure" that occurred on the way home was that we were stopped for speeding and the bill was pretty hefty. The first two pics are from the top of the cliff; we are looking down at the birds and trying to decide whether we saw any puffins, we didn't.
Whoa there Ferndog! I still don't know why you are in Iceland. The only thing I know about Iceland is that it's cold and Björk is from there (of course if you read the Wiki-link about Iceland you know everything about it). So let me back up a bit and try to make things clearer. At MIT there is this program called MISTI which enables MIT affiliates to travel to various countries and intern for companies, mostly during the summers. I have participated with MISTI-Mexico and somewhat with MISTI-Spain. This year, however, MISTI added Israel as the newest country, and English was the only language requirement, so I attended the info session and applied thinking that this summer I would be in the Holy Land. Much to my dismay, I was informed that being the newest program, there were not many companies available and work connections were few. Also, since I had already participated in MISTI before, they wanted to give a chance to people who hadn't (a similar thing occurred the previous year when I applied to Spain, since back then, they were the newbies). Although this was fair and I agree with their decision, it left me without any summer plans.
One day in my room Froy was filling out his FAFSA, Morticia was pouncing on a cricket, Kendra was checking her email, and I was youtubing. When Kendra announced that an email had been sent to all of the Course 1 people regarding a summer internship in Iceland. Knowing that Iceland does great geothermal work and that I am interested in this, Kendra forwarded the email to me. I applied, interviewed, and was accepted to intern with the company, called Mannvit (which translates in English to "human wisdom"). So that is how I came to be in Iceland, working on some chemical engineering projects.
Phew, now that that's cleared up I can continue with my book.
So the house where I stayed was rather nice with a grapevine in the sun room, two restrooms, and five bedrooms. I chose a vacant room with a view of a tree, because trees are quite rare in Iceland. Apparently when the Vikings first settled in Iceland, it was covered by trees, but they were destroyed to build houses, ships, or exported. Nowadays, people have started planting more trees and flowers (especially the Alaskan lupine). Anyway, the third photo is of the view from my old room. And because of the constant light, there were dark curtains, but I would never draw them (I'm bad at art and stuff) because the tree looked too pretty and I can sleep with lights on.Anyway, that's all for now folks. But in response to last post's trivia, which some people got right, the line is from the Bible. Genesis, from the creation story, to be more exact. Currently, I am reading a book by Joseph Heller entitled Picture This, which discusses philosophy and the history of the Greeks during the life of Aristotle and the Dutch empire during the life of Rembrandt. Seems kinda random right? Can you tell me what the connection is between these two people (there may exist many, I'm only thinking of one so props if you think of another one)? On that note can you tell me the connection between Socrates and Alexander the Great (this one is pretty easy)?
